PSD --> Fireworks PNG --> FLA

So for a while we have been able to open a psd in Fireworks, save it out as a Fireworks png and then import into Flash. This workflow allowed us to retain individual layers, editable text and automatically made transparent pngs for us. However the psd needed to be “optimized” or simplified prior to doing this. Layer modes and filters needed to merged down etc… Well as they say on those awesome infomercials…Not Anymore!

With Flash 8 we are now able to take a psd with any layer modes…overlay, multiply etc…and many layers filters like drop shadow and glows….open it up in Fireworks…save it out as a Fireworks png…import into flash and BAM its all there in its glory. Flash adds the drop shadows and glows to the objects and converts the necessary elements to movieclips to enable layer modes.

While this workflow might not be the best for all situations I find it really useful.

This new functionality might have been mentioned somewhere else in the hundreds of awesome Flash 8 posts out there….but I hadn’t come across it.

Enjoy!

Assume this is using the new Fireworks 8 > Flash 8? Doesn't matter about the version of PShop?
Me.

This workflow will work with PSD files from all versions of Photoshop. :)

While its not perfect, the conversion is defintely smoother than before. Glad you like it Adam!
